Human Development Index
This is a data visualization work that I learned from the Lynda course called Designing a data visualization by Bill Shander. During the whole process, I used Excel to sort and calculate the exact data that I was going to display on this data visualization graph. Then I drafted an visualization graph in Adobe Illustrator and after that I used Adobe ExtendScript Toolkit to transfer my data into beautiful and vivid images.
First I opened the data that I downloaded from the website in Excel, and then I just tried to sorted all the data based on the contents that I am intended to display on my visualization graph. As you can see, I created several items called “ Human Development Rank”, “Life Expectancy Rank”, “Education Rank” and “Income Rank”, which were what I was intended to incorporate in my graph. Then I used the formulas in Excel to calculate the exact numbers of their ranks among all these countries listed. I named the items “Life Expectancy Rank Value”,” Education Rank Value”, “Income Rank Value”.
Then I tried to created all those boxes in Adobe Illustrator that represent the countries and their HDI ranks.
I selected all the data I needed and pasted in the TextEditor, just to made it nice and clean and therefore more convenient for me to paste in the script area in Adobe ExtendScript Toolkit. Then I finished all the scripts I needed to create my visualization graph.
Still I applied Adobe ExtendScript to finish all my visualization part.
